In Case You Missed It or, More Likely, not shown

A compilation of some Stubstack notes from the last week-ish.
We’re moving stuff to the main site before the Stubstack content is scraped, stolen, lost or enshitified. The Fiesta 13.

The Voices of Our Mother
A Fiesta 5/13
♥️♼
Originally, we planned a detailed outline of the plot of every generic possessed family-member movie ever, all faint copies of The Exorcist. Like this movie.
Then we remembered it’s Phone-It-In Friday. And put the same amount of effort into this as the film makers did.
After her mother dies, our leads’ have to deal with their absent mother & get her house. A shirt-grabbing open dissolves into terrible when the siblings show up. There’s the three bad kids: Turtleneck Asshole, The Frizz-Hair Yeller & Drug Beanie. And the one good adult kid, a freakin nun described as The Pure One. Hmmm, wonder who lives in this movie?
The best part are the elderly women in the movie. We just wanted to see the assholes’ mom shrieking & doing possessed stuff. No assholes. Just mom.
No. Bad horror movies always cast a few assholes so we don’t feel culpable when they die. Cut someone off in traffic, you deserve to die. We understand. Fifteen seconds after we meet them, the three siblings should have been murdered. Instead, they talk talk talk talk talk about how bad they are. Bad secrets. Bad actions. Bad betrayals. Guys, they are not nice people. Again & again & again. Only the nun, could be Mary Louise Parker’s cousin, is flash-back worthy. The movie could have been a better 30 minute episode, eliminating 95% of the second act, starting back up with the pure nun’s third act rally speech.
Here’s what we really wanted to write about…
In the first shot of the mother, she has a black eye.
A tip for film makers & people who like editing three or more different movies together to make a more awesome movie to show to friends:
In the first silent shot of a new character in a neutral location, give them a black eye. We will watch that movie until the black eye is explained. Why? How? What Happened? Black Eye stories usually are intriguing, even if they’re not explained like the Fargo sequel, Large Marge in Charge: Fargo 4.
From time to time, we’ll take a look at some of the second-tier new movies on streaming. Obex just premiered on Night Flight & we’re excited about that after seeing the trailer.

Nude on The Moon
A Fiesta 7/13
♦️♣️♽
A bunch of Doris Wishman movies just showed up on Night Flight!
Here’s an old review of one of them:
Nude on The Moon is two completely different movies, cleaved at the midway point.
The first 45 minutes should be called: Completely Clothed on The Earth. (A Fiesta 2)
1961. AMERIKA! hasn’t been on the moon yet. What is up there? Are there babes on The Moon? Moon Dolls? Space jungles? No one knows. Two regular guys in pale, blue jumpsuits set to find out. The two of them build a rocket, primarily by putting dry ice in various colored liquids. There’s a lot of bubbling in test tubes if you’re building a rocket. The full rocket can also be fully built in a cramped basement. Only takes two. Here on lowly Earth, Florida, there’s sound only when you’re inside. Nice. Not so lucky, outside.
The guys decide not to tell anyone about the rocket, as who would believe them?
Then, the two guys launch into space and mostly sleep on the way to The Moon. What a boring trip. Then, the second movie begins:
Panty-ed on The Moon (A Fiesta 6). Finally, the nudie cutie part. Each lovely and nice man and woman on the moon wear panties and nothing else. Unless you’re six or under, then full nudity. Always, a bit jarring seeing toddler full-frontal.
On the verdant, fertile, everglades of The Moon, the two astronauts collect gold rocks on the beach and generally leave the Moon Dolls alone. Only The Queen of The Moon Dolls can speak telepathically, while everyone else just nods and enjoys moon-bathing. Then, stuff happens, and the younger astronaut falls for The Queen who looks just like a topped Earth-girl back home who has a crush on the dopey astronaut.
Eventually, after their oxygen runs out, the two guys in pale blue jumpsuits amble their way back home where no one believes they went to the lush, lush moon anyway. Take more pictures next time guys.
Worth the song:

The Ray Bradbury Theater:
The Town Where No One Got Off
♥️♼
A Fiesta 10/13
Before the novel of a movie, we’ll watch a short story anthology show. Rewatched The Twilight Zone—including the hour-long episodes, usually not in syndication. Then The Night Gallery. We’ve moved on to 1985’s The Ray Bradbury Theater, a show we missed. Peacock has some of the episodes. The show moved around more than Firefly. William Shatner, Leslie Nielsen, & lots of other stars. Lil Drew Barrymore owns her average episode. Also liked that each episodes has title fonts to match the episode. The fourth episode was the first that felt Twilight Zone quality.
Jeff Goldblum is an unpublished author on the train. He’s waxing about the joys of small-town life to a passenger. The businessman double-dog dares Goldblum to stop at the NEXT random town to see how friendly the yokels are. He does. The town hates the new stranger. Why?
Next series we’ll probably revisit is Tales from The Crypt on Shudder. While we believe intros and openings are sacrosanct. Not to be skipped. (Can we not even see the ‘skip’ button?) We will skip the worst horror host in undead memory.

The Wild Beasts

Rarely does a movie live up to the promise of the description.
This one does. Read the description. If you want to watch that, immediately as we did, expectations will be met.
On Midnight Pulp.

Watching mainstream news all morning.
They all mentioned Our Beloved Leader nixing the housing act to include The Save Act.
None mentioned how The Save Act would affect voting. Just read 10 different news articles from mainstream sources. Vox & Esquire mentioned the voter disenchantment, AP linked to an article.
Update: The SAVE Act was explained is some of the updated reporting. The tag.
