The Fiesta 13’s Semi-Random Horror Movie Night

The Fiesta 13’s Semi-Random Horror Movie Night Guide

Please Share, It’s Free!

Looking for a new scary movie this October, The Semi-Random Horror Movie Night Game can help. This game is a different way to pick horror movies. Let’s let the cards decide.

It’s simple. All you need is a standard deck of playing cards. Each player draws two cards. Then, draw one card and place the card face-down on the table.  This card will always be face-down on table, unknown to all, unless revealed as the final choice. Or after the category choice has been set. Then, draw one card and place it face up for all to see. This is for two players, for 3 or more, add a card to the table for each extra player, either face-up or face-down, group’s choice.

Each card represents a different horror movie category. After the category is chosen, the players then vote on what horror movie they’d like to see.

Use Rock-Paper-Scissors or any random method to pick the first player, then go around the table in order.

First Round:

Look at The Semi-Random Horror Movie Guide to determine your card’s category. Then, each player must discard one card in hand, face-up to the discard pile.

Second Round:

The face-up card on the table & the players remaining cards are shuffled and dealt out again, a new face-up card(s) on the table after dealing one card to each player. Again, the face-down card(s) remain untouched. The player then decides whether or not to keep their remaining card. The player must discard one of the cards on the table or discard their remaining card as their turn.

Third Round:

If a player kept the in-hand card, place the card face-up on the table for everyone to vote on. The face-down cards, if not discarded, are also a choice. However, they’re not turned over. This should leave the same number of cards as players. Everyone votes on the remaining cards. If a tie, drop the lowest numbered card and revote. Face-down cards must be discarded by a player. Or pick randomly from the remaining cards if unable to choose.

Fourth Round:

Go to the category list and links. Each category list is set to show the top 50 movies in an IMDB generated list. You can change this to 20 if you want. We recommend starting at the bottom of the list and moving up rankings for the best variety of movies.

The goal is to show a horror movie NO ONE HAS SEEN. Horror is better if everyone goes in cold. So always pick a movie YOU HAVE NOT SEEN. If a movie has been branded ’SEEN IT!,” move up the list. When you get to five unseen movies, move to the fifth round.

SEEN IT!

If you’ve seen a movie within the last ten years, you have SEEN IT! Skip.

As a group you can vote SEEN IT! If no one wants subtitles or foreign languages or a particular rating AS A GROUP. Skip that choice.

Choose up to five movies as a group YOU HAVE NOT SEEN. If you get to 25 movies without five unseen movies, pick from the choices left. Every player gets up to two votes for up to two movies. Each player must vote for at least one movie. You can vote twice for one movie. The movie with the most votes wins. Drop lowest numbered card and revote or random choice for ties.

All of the lists are IMBD generated to reflect the category through key words and various sorting options.

Before you use the IMDB list, you can sort it to better reflect your experience with the category. Each category is default-set to sort the list by Number of Ratings. This gives a popular and broad result in the category. If you choose, Sort by User Ratings, you generally get a more obscure result. Sort by Popularity gives a more mainstream result. Also, have little knowledge about a category, then start at the top of the list and move down. However, going from the bottom up usually offers up more movies most have not seen.

Round Five:

After the five movies are chosen. Check https://www.justwatch.com/ to see if the movie is available to you on streaming or to rent. Also, search the movie with movie’s release year on YouTube to see if the film is there. Some of the more obscure movies can be there if not anywhere else. The Fiesta 13 is against pirating, as most movies are out there in better quality. anyway. If the movie is not available to you or you don’t want to rent the film, move to the next choice.

If none of the five choices are available to you, move down the master category until y’all find a movie available & unseen to all.

Want a Trailer Reel before the movie? Go to @thefiesta1386 on YouTube, go to the playlist section and select an appropriate trailer reel. There’s over 100 trailer reels from 1930-today.

PLAYING BY YOURSELF?

Draw three cards, pick a category. Pick a movie. Or play any way that makes sense to you. Another idea, combine the categories of two or three of your choices to make a new list. For example, a 1930’s Haunted House Movie or A Body Horror that takes place in The Sea. Combine cards for new genres & search IMDB.
