What’s the movie you show to a new friend to see if your tastes are compatible? Doesn’t have to be their favorite, liking it is enough.

One time in The Oldey-Timey, we took a date to see Raising Arizona. We’d seen Blood Simple & loved it & was excited to see the movie.

They hated it. Our relationship, even with our desperate loneliness, ended three days later.

Raising Arizona a top-ten favorite. They are not. Should have seen the Billy Joel Red Flag.

This is the movie we show to new friends. 100% success rate.

Widow’s Bay:

It’s Jaws from the point of view of the mayor. Matthew Rhys has never been bad and has a track record of picking quality projects, he’s an exec. producer. Plus the rest of the cast is a Murder’s Row of character actors you love—Dickey Dale, Stephen Root. The characters have their own internal lives not necessarily as functions of plot.

While billed by Apple TV as a Mystery/Thriller. It’s a horror comedy. One of the staples of horror comedy is the coward as lead (Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein, etc). Rhys nails the fever-brain of a panic attack.

Watch It, horror nerds.
